Dear Incoming Freshers,
Firstly, congratulations on meeting your offers – crack open the champagne and celebrate.
From glancing at the timetable, you’ll be able to see everything from club nights out, parties, movie nights, BBQs, bar quizzes, punting, sports drop ins and free food left right and centre (I don’t think I paid for a single meal in my fresher’s week). You’ll be able to squeeze this in around some of the more formal events like talks by important members of the college and meeting your tutor and director of studies. These events are useful and compulsory no matter how hung over you are!
Adjusting from the school life to the university life is a huge change and the JCR hope to make this as easy as possible for all of you by helping you to settle in and meet plenty of the other Freshers. There’s already a John’s Freshers Facebook group to allow you to keep in touch with the other John’s Freshers and the JCR Committee.
Despite being on the large size, St John’s is a very close and friendly college. The JCR committee will be around for the whole of fresher’s week whether you’re lost, confused or just want a chat over a pint and a toasty. Look out for us in the garish red jumpers or memorise our mugshots on the ‘meet the committee’ page and we’ll point you in the right direction.
Your Fresher’s welcome guide and Fresher’s time table will be your bible for the first week or so and should contain everything you need to know. Additionally this recently re-designed webpage should allow easier access to the wealth of useful information that we have to offer – use the drop-down menus and the search bar at the top to find what you are looking for. If you’re after anything else no matter how small, do not hesitate to contact me by Facebook or by any of the following means:
Enjoy the rest of your summer and get ready for the best few years of your life!
On behalf of the St John’s College JCR Committee
