Straight Outta Compton // Oscar’s Special – Saturday 27th February – 9pm

On the eve of the 88th Academy Awards join us for a screening of one of the nominated films. Or at least one that should have been nominated a hell of a lot more!

That’s right, Christ’s Films are wading into the #oscarsowhite debate with STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON – a film that should have received far more nods than just best screenplay!

Charting the rise and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton follows Ice Cube (O’Shea Jackson Jr.-his son), Dr. Dre (Corey Hawkins), Eazy-E (Jason Mitchell) as they revolutionise hip hop culture and American attitudes to race and life in the hood, problems America still has to face up to today.

The Martian – Saturday 20th February – 9pm

*Nominated for 6 Oscars including Best Picture*

Running time: 142 mins

During routine maintenance, the crew of Ares III manned mission to Mars evacuate the base leaving Mark Watney (Matt Damon) behind. Using the meagre supplies and his wit, Watney works his way through the challenges he faces alone on the Martian surface. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. Tipped to win big at the Oscars, this is not one to miss.
