New Projects! – Hackbridge

Are you interested in gaining more practical experience in software?
Do you want to get good at technologies like machine learning and blockchain?
Hackbridge is a society that facilitates challenging projects to help students learn and grow. We work with researchers and startups to find problems that students can help solve, and build student teams to work on them. Our projects offer a unique chance for you to learn from experts in industry and gain practical experience by working on real world problems.
We have just launched 11 new projects! Here are just a few of them:

Earn £80 working for the Times

Want to boost your CV by working for a national newspaper? Looking to improve your leadership, organisational and time management skills? Want to gain first-hand market research experience? Then apply to become an interviewer for “The Times Final Year Student Survey”!

 

High Fliers Research, in association with The Times newspaper, is looking for students to become interviewers for their final year student survey, conducting research which forms the basis of “The Times Top 100” careers directory. As interviewers, all you need to do is interview 20 final year students across 7 days, from 31st Jan to 6th Feb. These are literally 15 minute chats with your friends, and you’ll get paid £80 when you reach your target, and more if you interview more. Not only that, you’ll also receive a reference from the Times/High Fliers – major CV points!

Credit Suisse careers events

On Thursday 18th October, Credit Suisse will be holding a networking event aimed at undergraduates. Attendees will be able to network with junior and senior representatives from the company and find out more about the Investment Banking & Capital Markets and Global Markets divisions.

Larmor Society Careers Event

The Larmor Society are hosting a STEM careers event this Wednesday 31st January, 6-7pm in the Lightfoot Room! This should be useful for students of all year groups as there’ll be advice on getting summer internships, PhDs, and careers in industry, with special guest speakers from TPP who are generously sponsoring the event. There’ll be a panel for question and answers, followed by networking and refreshments, and formal dinner with the speakers. Check out the Facebook event here.

Bursaries available for Teach First

For final year undergraduates interested in teaching, St John’s College offers a bursary of £1000 to students who receive an offer for Teach First’s Leadership Development Programme. This two-year, fully funded opportunity combines world-class leadership development and teacher training, placing confident, high-achieving graduates in schools in low income areas to help tackle educational inequality across the UK. The programme leads to a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, worth double the credits of a PGCE. Find out more about the programme here.

Simprints: The Healthcare Revolution

Polio elimination. Vaccinations. Improved child mortality. Meet the company revolutionising healthcare in the developing world. Simprints is a unicorn of social entrepreneurship that has developed a robust fingerprint scanner that can solve one of the biggest problem in public health: storing and accessing medical records. Funded by ARM and The Gates Foundation, Simprints has partnered with BRAC, the world largest NGO, to conduct a pilot study in Bangladesh. 

At the next Beyond Profit Event on 25th March, explore cofounder & CEO Toby Norman’s vision to transform mobile healthcare and find out how you can dream up the next groundbreaking idea to change the world.
