As one of the largest colleges in the University, St John's probably has some of the best computing facilities around...
Library
PWF PCs and Macs all over the place, but especially in the South Wing of the Mezzanine and the 3/F Computer Room. Three scanners (supposedly) - two in the Computer Room and one in the Mezzanine computer room. Laser printers on all floors (colour laser printers on first and third floor). Printing costs 5p per A4 B+W sheet and 25p for colour and is charged towards your PWF e-credit printing balance which you can top up using a credit card or by buying printing credit at the University Computing Service.
Wireless
In the Buttery, JCR, library, and various other places. You'll need your college network username and password to connect to it; after you've entered these details, you're allowed onto the network after an 80 second countdown.
Room connections
Provided for most College accommodation. Some hostel connections a bit slower than others but there's a plan to improve this over the next few years (sorry!). 2GB daily limit excluding intra-CUDN bandwidth. Most protocols OK. Windows XP (32-bit) users should download this to make sure they don't go over. You'll need a standard Ethernet cable for this - the JCR is selling them very cheaply during Freshers' Week (and after if there are any left over).
Help Desk
The College Computing Office (in Forecourt - turn left immediately outside the Porters' Lodge) is open to general queries Monday - Friday 2.15pm - 4.30pm. Or call: 01223 766550 / 38751 (internal) or e-mail computer-support@joh.cam.ac.uk
JCR Computing Officer
Natacha is this year's computing officer. Feel free to email me (nscc2) or give me a call on 07.748.491.886 for any computer problems you might have, and I'll try to do my best to rescue that all important essay that you've lost or figure out why your computer wont boot. Feel free to contact me as well if you have any suggestions on how you would like the website to be improved/what you would like to see on it.
