Hi, I’m Aurora the JCR’s Publicity Officer. This year it’s my job to co-ordinate your Freshers’ Week with Dawn the JCR’s President. Every year the JCR strives to make each fresher’s week better than the last, and with the College in its 500th year we’ll ensure that you all have a great start to your time at Cambridge!
Freshers’ Week is 5 days full of fun events and various other activities organised especially for first-year undergraduates, which allow you to get to know one another and the JCR committee. Moreover, it’s all aimed at helping you to settle into College and University life before term really gets going and lectures start! During the week we’ll venture to make sure you know all the stuff you need to know about Cambridge and University life in general.
Last year’s Freshers Week included a Sports day, Freshers’ Hall in Johns’ amazing Harry Potter-Style hall, the customary Back2Skool ent, film nights, a speed meet, the fancy-dress J is for Johns’ pub crawl, punting, an inflatable’s garden party, queue jumps for the best club nights Cambridge has to offer and the Hollywood ent - to name just a few.
With the JCR fresh from organizing the fantastic June Event ‘Adventures in Wonderland’, this year’s Freshers’ Week is set to be even better. With everything from staircase parties to ‘meet the (college) parents’ – there is sure to be something to suit everyone. Make sure you bring your old school uniform and some crazy fancy dress for the numerous ents and events of Freshers’ week. The JCRC runs all the Freshers’ Week events and activities so we’ll be around to answer your questions and help in any way we can. For those of you who have just received your exam results, congratulations! I hope you are looking forward to your first term at the best college in Cambridge. Enjoy the rest of your summer, get ready for 3 (or more) years at the most amazing University, and we will see you very soon!
