1) 2010 First Overland - an opportunity to join the Oxford and Cambridge Far Eastern Expedition to
Singapore. 1 place remaining.
www.firstoverland.co.uk
One of our team members of the 2010 First Overland expedition has been forced to withdraw, and so
applications are being re-opened for the 2010 First Overland, departing in September. This historic expedition
will last approximately six months in duration and significant time commitments will be necessary prior to
departure, including training over parts of the Summer.
The expedition will re-trace the original (First Overland, 1995/6) route to Singapore in two original 1950s Land
Rover series 1 Station Wagons, replicas of the original vehicles. We travel East across Europe, through
Turkey, Syria, Iran, Pakistan, India, Nepal, and Burma before arriving in Malaysia and finally Singapore.
You may want to take a look at the following videos from the original expedition:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6BEshgVhJQ&feature=player_embedded and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TXg6UlwpDc&feature=player_embedded The organisation of the trip is
proceeding very well. Both Land Rovers are now completely renovated, a process that has taken over two
years. Several thousands of pounds of sponsorship have been raised, and a series of magazine articles have
been commissioned. The BBC have expressed interest in documenting our trip, and we have been accredited
by by Oxford and Cambridge universites. We are additionally in the process of liasing with a number of
charitable organisations and major corporate firms with regards to sponsorship and charitable activities to
conduct en route.
So... IF you're completely available from September 2010 to March 2011, want to go on a journey of a lifetime,
can commit time between now and September for preparation, and hold a driving license, we'd love to hear from
you. We're looking for people with something to offer this expedition both before and after departure - particularly
in sponsorship, media relations, and planning. If you're interested in joining our team, please have a look at our
website www.firstoverland.co.uk, watch the videos, and complete the attached application form and return it to
Jamie Innes at John's College (jdi24) or Theo Ford-Sagers at Homerton (tdf24). The deadline for applications will
be Wednesday 10th March, though we'd encourage all applicants to get in touch sooner rather than later.
