In this new portrayal of Arthur Conan Doyle's famous characters, Guy
Ritchie sends Detective Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and his partner
Dr. Watson (Jude Law) on a battle of wits and brawn against serial killer
and occult "sorcerer" Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong). The dauntless detective
unravels the clues that will lead him into a twisted web of murder, deceit,
and black magic - and the deadly embrace of temptress Irene Adler (Rachel
McAdams).

Broken Embraces
Almodóvar gives a vivid twist to the classic film noir, shooting Penelope Cruz in vibrant, striking colour in their fourth collaboration, which was presented for the 2009 Palme d'Or. This tragic tale of fate, jealousy, abuse of power, betrayal and guilt is told partly in flashback, and is replete with references and allusions to classic cinema, in typical Almodóvar style.
