Your JCR
JCR Committee 2010 | |
![]() | Dawn Kelly Hey there, I'm Dawn, the President of your JCRC and your representative to College and to the rest of the University. My job is to over see the work of the JCRC to make sure we are doing as much as we can to maintain everything that's great here and improve any aspects to ensure you enjoy your time at St John's as much as possible. Me and the rest of the JCRC are your link to tell College what you are thinking, just as we are College's link to tell you what they are thinking. So give us your opinion and get involved! :) |
![]() | Malte Schwarzkopf My role is defined very flexibly - but on the more well-defined side I help Dawn running the JCR, chair open meetings, and take part in negotiations and consultation between the representatives of the junior members and the college authorities and administration. Furthermore, I am responsible for organising this year's Freshers' Week. Allegedly I'm also quite good at fixing computers. Feel free to drop me an email if you'd like to see an issue raised on the JCR or you have any suggestions or comments about our work! |
| Sophie Morgan Academic Affairs // academic@sjcjcr.com Sophie's job is to give students support and advice on academic matters, and to talk to the college about matters likely to affect students academically. She can help you deal with matters such as problems with supervisors, or difficulties with workloads, by introducing you to the support systems available. The academic affairs officer also helps with the JCR campaigns on issues such as the academic ballot and being allowed to stay in rooms between terms. Sophie's always happy to listen to anyone's concerns, and (being an English student) is generally available for a chat! |
| Alice Meredith My role is to make sure that the admissions process is as clear and straightforward as possible - to demystify the process! I want to ensure that all students, regardless of their background, feel able to apply here, and are encouraged and supported. We don't want anyone to be put off by incorrect negative preconceptions - Cambridge may require some hard work, but it is great fun too, and welcomes everyone! I work with the Development Office, with current students, applicants and schools. If any applicants have any queries about the application process, or just want to talk to a current student about Cambridge and St John's, I'll be really glad to answer any questions - and if I can't, I'll put you in touch with someone who can. I'm also really keen to hear from current students who want to get involved with access schemes or have any ideas about how to improve the admissions process - please do get in touch, and join the facebook group!

![]() | Natacha Crooks Hey, I'm Natacha, and I'm this year's Computing Officer and my role is to take care of JCR Computer related things. So, if your computer has for some mysterious reason broken down, feel free to email me/phone me, or if you see me walking around college (nscc2 07.448.491.886) and I'll try my best to help out. I also take care of the website, so if you have any suggestions for that I'll be happy to hear them :) More generally, if you have any suggestions as to how the computing facilities in college could be improved, I'd be happy to hearm them and attempt to pass them on to college. Email me at nscc2@cam.ac.uk or phone me at 07.448.491.886 |
| Natalie Sokolova Nat's job is really important, as she is there to make sure all Johnians have a good time. She organises two big dress-up ents at the beginning and end of each term, as well as two smaller and more music-oriented ents in the Boiler Room. She also puts on open mic nights in the bar, where everyone can come and show off their talents. On top of this, she is constantly in touch with the College authorities, trying to get permission to host more, and more diverse entertainments, to make sure that there really is something for everyone. She is open to suggestions, so if you have any, or would like to join the Ents Committee, email her at ns449@cam.ac.uk. |
![]() | Paloma Navarro Ethical Affairs // ethical@sjcjcr.com Hey! I'm Paloma, your Ethical Affairs officer!! I'm here to make sure that ethical practices are promoted and supported at John's. This involves making college a "greener" place, organize charity events, get students involved in charity work and promote ethical consumerism and investment. To help me with all this I work with the amazing Ethical Affairs Subcommittee. I also work closely with other college and university based organizations such as the College Environmental Committee, CUSU Ethical Affairs and RAG. We are all responsible for making John's a more "ethical" place, so please get involved with us! Check out the Ethical Affairs section of this website or email me directly for more info! Loads of ethical love!! |

![]() | Julian Parmer Hi, I'm Julian and I'm your JCR Treasurer. My job is to keep track of what the JCR is spending and making sure that we don't run out of money. At the moment this covers things from ents to Sky TV, but let me know if you've got any ideas for what else we should be spending our grant on! I'm also involved with negotiating your room rates and Kitchen Fixed Charge, and a few other things besides. Feel free to e-mail me about any of this (jp512). |
![]() | Mike Scoins CALL ME on 07727 071 478 I am always happy to see you |
![]() | Vivienne Shirley Hi, I'm Vivienne and I'm a first year Archaeology and Anthropology student. I decided to be the yearbook rep this year because I think the yearbook is a really important way of recording our time at John's, so we don't forget all the weird and wonderful things that happen here. I would like it to be very inclusive and collaborative; if anyone is interested in joining the yearbook committee and helping out please email me or facebook me. No experience necessary and any help would be much appreciated (plus it'll be fun I promise). I'm also going to set a Facebook group where people can post photos and comments to be included (more info to follow). |
